Ash Wednesday Feb 17
A solemn day of prayer and penitence that begins the
forty-day season of Lent. During Lent we prepare for the celbration of the
Three Days of Jesus' death and resurrection. It is also a time we
journey with those in our community and around the world preparing for
baptism at Easter. |
 |
We
receive the sign of ashes as an external mark of penitence. Ashes are an
ancient symbol of repentance and mourning, reminding us of our mortality. We
recall God's words to Adam and Eve following their disobedience: You are
dust, and to dust you shall return. The use of ashes also calls to
mind the words of the funeral liturgy, "ashes to ashes, dust to dust." By
honestly facing our need for forgiveness and healing, we turn to the
springtime of God's mercy and grace. With the
cross on our brow, we journey through Lent, longing for the baptismal
waters of Easter, our spiritual rebirth. |

This week, we celebrate with Pastor Kay, his

Bennett Kay. |

And it snowed. |
 |
Big Flakes, for
26 hours starting Friday afternoon. 22 to 24 inches in our area.
Right: Raspe Ave. Below, Marluth has no
tracks. |
 |

Our walks and half the parking lot got
cleared. But the streets were not. |

|
 |
 |
 |
But the new
handicap accessible door was installed in the courtyard. It will be painted
Red as soon as the weather warms up. |

Kristina wanted to look up Marluth. An
SUV was stuck int he middle.
|
 |
 |
 |
  |
Far left, our
courtyard fountain. Left upper, tracks came up Marluth the wrong way, but
they didn't make it to Raspe Ave. Left, drifting snow was densely
packed. The National Weather Service
labeled it a blizzard. |
