Pastor Gohl hails from Long Island where is parents and family still make their home. He earned his undergraduate degree from Gettysburg College, majoring in Comparative Religion and English Bible as well as studies in Marketing, Communications and Women's Studies. he received his Masters of Divinity degree, with honors in Preaching, from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. While in seminary, Pr. Gohl studied in the Washington Theological Consortium and took classes at The Catholic University of America, the Washington Theological Union, Howard University School of Divinity and Wesley Theological Seminary. He is currently a doctoral student at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, studying Urban Ministry Leadership. Pr. Gohl completed field education at Christ Chapel Church on the campus of Gettysburg College; God's Love we Deliver, a meals on wheels program for AIDS patients in New York City; St. James Lutheran Church, a 3000 member congregation in Gettysburg, and here at Epiphany. During Pr Gohl's tenure at Peace, he led the congregation in growth from 55 to 70 people in worship each week to over 200. The average age of the parish membership has dropped from the mid-50s to the low 30s. Peace Church has assisted in building Anne Arundel County's first homeless shelter, revitalizing a neighboring congregation (Our Savior in Lansdowne) as well as developed mission partnerships with several city and suburban congregations as well as St Dysmas in the Maryland State Prison System. Pr. Gohl serves as part-time coordinator for Evangelism on the Bishop's Staff of the Synod, where he is responsible for 184 congregations. He also chairs the synod's Colehower Committee, managing a half million dollar competitive grant program. Pr. Gohl is Vice President-Elect of the Gettysburg Seminary Alumni Council, and is a volunteer chaplain for the Arundel Alarmers Fire Department, Baltimore-Washington Medical Center and Harbor Hospital. Pastor Bill makes his home in East Baltimore with his wife, the Rev. Arwyn A. P. Gohl, who is pastor of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Baltimore as well as their black lab, Spirit and a grey short-haired cat, misnamed Precious. |
