The Rev. Edward N. Kay
comes to us after graduating from the
Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in 2007. He was ordained and
installed as a pastor of Epiphany on December 15, 2007. Pastor Kay also serves
as the Coordinator of Youth & Family Ministry for the Delaware-Maryland Synod.
Pastor
Kay is a native of the Baltimore area, growing up just north of the city in
Towson and Timonium where both sides of his family still reside. He graduated
from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Kinesiology (the
study of human movement), with plans to enter into Physical Therapy. God,
however, had other plans as Pastor Kay felt the call to serve his home
congregation (Ascension Lutheran, Towson, MD) as their full-time Youth Minister
- a position he held for three years before leaving for seminary.
While in Philadelphia, Pastor Kay served in
field education at Living Word Lutheran (Roslyn, PA) and Calvary Lutheran (West
Chester, PA), and engaged in Clinical Pastoral Education at Abingdon Memorial
Hospital (Abingdon, PA). He completed his year-long internship at Grace
Lutheran (Hockessin, DE).
Pastor Kay also serves as the Coordinator of
Youth & Family Ministry for the Delaware-Maryland Synod, a position he has held
since September, 2007. In this capacity, he serves to coordinate the youth
leadership program, two annual regional youth events, and a variety of training
opportunities for church leaders. He is also a resource for congregations in
transition and vision of their programs for young people and families. He is
also coordinating the current planning for congregations from the Synod
attending the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans, LA.
Pastor Ed makes his home in Timonium with his
wife, Lisa, and their daughters, Abigail and Nora, along with their three cats, Pete,
Hobbes & Mr. Peanut. They also enjoy a close relationship with both sides of
their family who all live within 10 minutes of one another!
